Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) released the following statement regarding today’s announcement by Governor Murphy regarding skyrocketing energy costs:
“Today’s announcement from the Governor is just another band aid. Whether it’s the deferral of the energy cost increase or this credit on your bill, the fact remains it doesn’t fix the overarching problem and it certainly doesn’t go far enough to help the families and small businesses already struggling to afford their utility bills. It simply delays the pain to avoid political fallout in an election year.
This is not relief, it’s a cover-up. Trenton Democrats are once again trying to deflect the consequences of their own failed energy policies.
Kicking the can down the road, giving everyone a credit, or blaming PJM might help with headlines, but it won’t help New Jerseyans in the long term. We need to fix the root problem and build more in-state generation, create a market where energy producers want to invest in NJ, and establish a more balanced energy strategy. Those steps will be the real solutions to making energy more affordable and reliable.
Senate Republicans have real solutions on the table. We’re ready to act. Ratepayers deserve transparency and long-term relief.”
