Burlington County Showcasing Senior and Teen Artists With Exhibits at Historic Smithville Park

EASTAMPTON – There’s still time to view some of the amazing artwork created by talented Burlington County seniors and teens.

The Smithville Mansion Annex Art Gallery is hosting the Burlington County Senior Art Show and selections from the Burlington County Teen Arts Festival until September 6. More than 90 works of art in a variety of mediums are on display in both exhibits, which are organized by the Burlington County Parks System and the Burlington County Department of Human Services Office on Aging.

“The arts are an important creative outlet for all ages and Burlington County is excited to showcase the creative talents of local seniors and teens in the beautiful Smithville Mansion,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson, the liaison to the Department of Human Services and the Office on Aging. “This year’s Senior Art Show features more than 60 entries, which is the most in the nine years we’ve been organizing the exhibit. We’re excited to pair those works with many of the best from the Teen Arts Festival, so visitors can experience art from both age groups.”

“The growth of the arts in Burlington County is a great success story reflected by the record participation in the Senior Art Show and Teen Arts Festival,” added Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel, the liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation and Parks. “Both shows feature outstanding works from professionals and emerging talent alike, and Smithville Mansion is a beautiful location to view them. It’s a fun summer activity for all ages.”

This year’s Senior Art Show features original designs from a record 64 artists, including 31 professionals and 33 nonprofessionals. All the participating artists are 60 years or older and residents of Burlington County. The art includes acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings, mixed media, pastels, photography and crafts.

All senior submissions are being exhibited in the Smithville Mansion Annex Gallery. They were each judged and the first place winners from each category will also be exhibited at the 2025 New Jersey Senior Art Show this fall at Meadow Lakes, Mercer County.

The Teen Arts exhibit is also being held in the Smithville Mansion Annex and features 29 prize winners from this year’s Teen Arts Festival in March.

Each piece was selected by a panel of professional adjudicators made up of active industry professionals, such as artists, instructors and gallery curators. Several of the works were also judged as part of the statewide Teen Arts competition this summer.

The Smithville Mansion Annex Gallery is located in Historic Smithville Park in Eastampton inside the former Georgian estate of Hezekiah Smith, the industrialist and inventor who purchased the village of Shreveville on the Rancocas Creek and transformed it into a thriving industrial village he renamed Smithville.

Burlington County purchased the mansion and the remains of the village in 1975 and transformed it into Burlington County’s first County park. The 50th anniversary of the purchase was celebrated earlier this year during the annual May Faire festival at the park.

In addition to the Mansion Annex Gallery, the County also hosts art exhibits in the Worker’s House Gallery, located in a former factory worker’s cottage in the park.

The Historic Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County is also located in the park inside a former worker’s home.

“Smithville was our first County park and it continues to be the crown jewel of our parks system,” said Commissioner Eckel. “You can go on an outdoor adventure, discover history, view art or experience all three in this single destination.”
