CAIR Action NJ Announces Election Wins and Preliminary Muslim Exit Survey Results from 2025 General Election

(Paterson, NJ, 11/05/2025) — CAIR Action NJ, the largest Muslim political advocacy organization in New Jersey, proudly announces that 21 endorsed candidates have won their elections, with two advancing to runoffs and one race still too close to call. The organization commends the growing influence of American Muslim voters and the shared commitment to justice, equity, and inclusive public service shown by winning candidates across the state.

Among the victories, nine endorsed State Assembly candidates secured wins, with Maureen Rowan (LD-2) on the verge of becoming the tenth, a potential win adding to the growing pro-Justice candidates in the Assembly. These victories mark a growing recognition from voters who support candidates that share CAIR Action’s vision for a New Jersey that works for everyone — regardless of faith, race, or background.

“Our endorsed candidates reflect a new chapter for New Jersey — one rooted in justice, compassion, and a true sense of service to all,” said Ali Aljarrah, Senior Advisor for CAIR Action NJ. “Muslim voters across the state made it clear that they are an active and discerning political force, deeply committed to the future of this state and this nation.”

Preliminary Exit Survey Findings: Muslim Voters Back Mikie

In partnership with CAIR National, CAIR Action NJ conducted a statewide Muslim exit survey, contacting a randomized sample of approximately 52,000 likely Muslim voters across New Jersey via cell phone. Of the 383 respondents, preliminary unweighted results show that:

77% voted for Mikie Sherrill
5% voted for Jack Ciattarelli
12% did vote for a Gubernatorial candidate

These findings are preliminary, and final results will be released soon.

While preliminary exit survey results show strong Muslim voter engagement, discussions across online community platforms reflect a growing sentiment that justice both abroad and at home shapes political trust. For many voters, genocide in Gaza and anti-Muslim rhetoric have become defining moral tests for many voters.

“If candidates want the support of Muslim voters, they should not pose for photos with a Prime Minister wanted for war crimes,” said Aljarrah. “How candidates stand on Palestine will define whether they stand with justice — and Muslim voters are paying attention.”

Remarks by Jack Ciattarelli labeling New York City’s first Muslim mayor as an ‘extremist’ and ‘antisemite’ alienated many Muslims and allies across New Jersey. There was a measured understanding that Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill was the better choice, even as many Muslims remained reserved or uneasy given her stance on Palestine.

A Growing Movement of Political Engagement

This election also showcased a surge in visible Muslim candidates and organizers, running for office or participating in campaigns across local and state levels. Motivated by attacks on free speech, discrimination, and the silencing of Muslim voices — particularly regarding Palestine and immigrant justice — American Muslims in New Jersey are shaping a new political landscape.

“Like Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani’s movement in New York, what we’re seeing in New Jersey is the rise of a confident, values-driven Muslim electorate — one that is informed, engaged, and ready to build coalitions,” said Aljarrah.
