Cathy Kazan Announces Independent Campaign for Mayor of Wayne
Joined by Council At-Large Candidates Joyce Duncan, Katherine McEwan, and Suzanne Pudup

Wayne, NJ – [June 05] — Longtime public servant and recently retired Wayne Board of Education Trustee, Cathy Kazan, has officially announced her Independent candidacy for Mayor of Wayne Township. With a deep commitment to serving the residents of Wayne, and a history of working across the aisle for legislative success during her tenure as BOE president, Kazan is launching her campaign under the slogan “People Over Party.”

“After years of working on behalf of Wayne’s students and families, I believe it’s time for real change in how our local government operates,” said Kazan. “Residents deserve leadership that answers to the community—not to a political party.”

Kazan will not be running on a political party line, and neither will her three running mates for Council At-Large: Joyce Duncan, Katherine McEwan, and Suzanne Pudup—each of whom brings a strong record of civic engagement and local involvement.

Joyce Duncan  served as a school board member in Paterson before moving to Wayne 26 years ago. While raising her three sons with her husband Bill, a retired Battalion Chief with the Paterson Fire Department, she stayed active in the school community.  She volunteered on the Booster Clubs for her son's sports as well as PTO Council President overseeing all the local PTOs in Wayne.   She has also taught in the private sector, worked in the corporate world, and became a Master Gardener in her spare time.

Katherine “Katie” McEwan  understands the value of selfless community service. She brings a background in project management and runs a small business with her husband Bob.  She is passionate about finding practical solutions for our township including smart land use and planning, environmental stewardship, and ensuring transparent, accountable leadership. A resident of Wayne since 2008, she is committed to serving all Wayne residents.

Suzanne Pudup is a retired educator and former President of the Wayne Board of Education. She has continued her family’s long tradition of volunteerism alongside her husband, a longtime member of the volunteer First Aid Squad.  Suzanne brings governing experience and a passion for serving the Wayne community.

The team is united by a shared mission: to prioritize local issues, encourage civic participation, and end the grip of partisan politics in Wayne’s municipal government.
