Dozens of Advocacy, Health and Consumer Groups Urge Senators to Reject Trump Nominee Casey Means for
U.S. Surgeon General

For Immediate Release: July 25, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Friday, 32 organizations submitted a letter co-led by Public Citizen and the Center for Science in the Public Interest to U.S. senators urging them to reject the nomination of health and wellness digital personality Casey Means, who does not have an active medical license, for the position of U.S Surgeon General.

Signatories of the letter said Means is “not a serious nominee” and “wholly unqualified to serve as a lead U.S. public health official.” They write that Means does not have an active medical license and dropped out of her surgical residency before completing it. The letter also noted that she has little to no managerial experience to oversee the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (USPHS) composed of 6,000 civil servants dedicated to improving public health in the United States. The letter states Means’ lack of experience, anti-vaccine rhetoric and other medical conspiracy theories and potential conflicts of interest, including multiple health-related business ventures, make her unfit to be the country’s lead public health communicator.

The letter implores the Trump administration to immediately rescind Means’ nomination for this position, and if the administration does not and her confirmation proceeds to the Senate floor, it urges senators to vote no.
