EMILYs List Statement on Women Driving Democrats’ Commanding Election Night Wins

EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Tonight’s results prove that women — backed by EMILYs List — are at the center of Democrats’ fight to take back power. As Republicans rip the rug out from under working Americans, voters demonstrated that Democratic women are best positioned to tackle the affordability crisis. Across the country, our women won in even the toughest of districts. Two bold women leaders running on affordability agendas, Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger, will become New Jersey and Virginia’s first Democratic women governors. Across Virginia, all of 10 our women flipped Republican seats to expand Democrats’ critical majority in the state legislature, creating a governing majority anchored by Democratic women. In Detroit and Boston, our mayors protected their seats.”

"These victories are a blueprint for the continued fight to reclaim power in 2026 and a model for what leadership looks like in the fight ahead. Women are key to sustaining Democrats’ momentum, flipping Republican-held seats, and taking back the majority in Congress. At EMILYs List, we are already knee-deep recruiting and preparing the women best equipped to battle out those wins in 2026.”

EMILYs List congratulates the following women on their decisive victories:

  • Mikie Sherrill, Governor of New Jersey
