Former No Arlington Mayor endorses Balwierczak & Sever for council.
News for Immediate release:
Former NA Mayor Endorses Balwierczak & Sever for Borough Council!
Martone calls for responsible two-party government, time for a change after a decade of this all-Republican regime!
NORTH ARLINGTON – Former North Arlington Mayor Ed Martone, who toppled GOP incumbent Ernie Cerone in a surprising landslide in 1978 has endorsed the Democratic ticket of John Balwierczak and Cengiz “Jim” Sever for Borough Council.
Martone, who was elected to the Borough Council in 1976, was the youngest person ever elected in borough history and two years later defeating GOP incumbent Ernest T. Cerone, who up to that point had never lost a local contest.
Martone served as mayor from 1979-1983 and was defeated for reelection by the late Leonard R. Kaiser who served from 1983-2003 as the borough’s longest serving chief executive.
TEN YEARS OF ALL NA REPUBLICANS JUST TOO LONG.
“The Republicans have had ten years of uninterrupted political control with little in results. Unpopular tax reassessments plague homeowners, hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost lawsuits and out-of-court settlements they refuse to explain or acknowledge, massive overdevelopment of Ridge Road, increased traffic, nothing for seniors and a general feeling North Arlington under these Republicans have abdicated our values of the community by not remaining small, safe or suburban,” acknowledged candidates Balwierczak and Sever.
“Our opponents don’t even have a platform. There reason for running is that they are mindless puppets for Pronti,” blasted Balwierczak, who has been unmercifully attacked personally by Pronti online the entire campaign even though Pronti is not on the ballot.
Pronti has blocked Balwierczak from responding to these unfair attacks.
“He wants to run everything and anything North Arlington and he found six puppets to allow him to do as he pleases. Why is he so afraid and petrified of allowing his hand-picked candidates to debate? The answer is obvious.”
“Pronti has become an embarrassment to the community. He’s a bully and a political dictator who hates the notion of responsible two-party government. When will this do-nothing mayor explain why NA paid out $200,000 to a former employee? What are the facts of that complaint? Why is he evading the ugly and hateful details? Why are Pronti, Del Russo and DeCicco mum on these sordid allegations by this former library employee? They won’t come clean with the details to the public and refuse to debate us.” blasted Balwierczak..
ED MARTONE: A MAYOR OF A HIGHER STANDARD.
“We appreciate Mayor Martone’s advice, guidance and support. He has a keen understanding of the issues facing homeowners and taxpayers. Our opponents are an empty slate with no platform other than a blank check for higher property taxes in the form of these tax reassessments nobody supports,” offered both Balwierczak and Sever.
During his mayoral administration, some of Martone's accomplishments included restoring and acquiring parks, the opening of the Eugene V. Madden Senior Center, and appointing the first full-time borough administrator.
Martone formerly served as executive director of the ACLU for New Jersey and was on the criminal justice transition teams for Governors Jim McGreevey and Jon Corzine.
Martone also serves as Director of Public Education and Policy at the New Jersey Association on Correction (NJ ACON).
