Passaic County Expands Mobile Food Pantry Services to Support SNAP Recipients During Federal Shutdown

PATERSON, NJ – In response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners has expanded its mobile food pantry services to ensure that residents who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) continue to have access to nutritious food.
This is a statewide issue, as Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency effective November 1, 2025, following the suspension of federal SNAP benefits by the Trump Administration. The declaration enables a coordinated response across New Jersey, empowering state agencies to take emergency actions to protect public health and ensure that vulnerable residents continue to have access to food.
The County’s Mobile Food Pantry, operated by the Department of Human Services and the Passaic County Pantry Partners initiative, will travel throughout the County to distribute shelf-stable meals to SNAP beneficiaries facing delays or reduced benefits.
Residents are encouraged to visit the mobile pantry when it stops in their community – registration is required. To receive food support, individuals must pre-register and bring their SNAP/EBT card and a valid photo ID.
“Passaic County is committed to ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry because of a federal shutdown,” said Passaic County Commissioner Rodney De Vore. “We’re stepping up to fill the gap and support families, seniors and individuals who depend on SNAP benefits for daily meals. Our mobile food pantry brings resources directly into neighborhoods, reducing barriers and delivering help where it’s needed most.”
The mobile pantry will visit locations across all municipalities (see chart below), so residents can more easily access locations near them.
Residents who are not currently enrolled in SNAP but are experiencing food insecurity are encouraged to contact the Passaic County Department of Human Services for information on eligibility and assistance.
This initiative reflects the County’s ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity and protecting the well-being of residents during times of uncertainty.
