Passaic County Supports Over 7,900 Residents During SNAP Support Week — More Opportunities Ahead

Passaic County, NJ – Last week, the Passaic County Board of Commissioners rallied County departments in a coordinated series of events to support residents who have been impacted by the temporary halt of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Over one week, coordinated food distribution events provided essential meals and groceries to more than 7,900 individuals.
The initiative spanned multiple County departments, including the Passaic County Department of Human Services, the Passaic County Buildings & Grounds Department, the Passaic County Department of Senior Services and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office. All departments worked together in a unified effort to support residents.
“We set out to put the focus where it belongs - on residents and their access to food security, dignity and support,” said Commissioner Orlando Cruz. “Our entire County team rose to the occasion and showed that when government works together, people benefit.”
Commissioner Sandi Lazzara added, “At each event we heard from residents who were relieved to find help fast, friendly and locally-available. This wasn’t about paperwork, it was about meeting people where they are and reminding them that they belong here.”
Sheriff Thomas Adamo of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office noted, “The members of the Sheriff's Office take genuine pride and interest in helping our neighbors access vital supports like SNAP. Fewer barriers, help create better outcomes and stronger neighborhoods.”
