Passaic County, NJ – The Passaic County Board of County Commissioners announced today that the County will provide emergency food assistance to residents currently enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) who are affected by the suspension of November benefits due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Passaic County will be offering two opportunities to pick up food packages at the following locations:

“Our residents should never have to worry about putting food on the table because of a federal shutdown,” said Passaic County Commissioner Director Pat Lepore. “Passaic County is doing its best to address this crisis and support our community’s well-being. When people need help, we act — that’s what public service means.”
Commissioner Deputy-Director Sandi Lazzara added, “This is about care and compassion. We’re working to make sure that no family, senior or individual goes without food during this difficult time. Together, we can get through this.”
Passaic County is also taking additional steps to support local food providers during this challenging time. The County will be recommending how to proportionally distribute $290,000 in emergency grant funding for up to seven food pantry partners, ensuring they are prepared to meet the increased demand for food assistance. Distribution will be structured so that each pantry serves residents in its own and the neighboring regions. Passaic County will also deploy the Mobile Food Pantry, funded by the Board of County Commissioners and operated by CUMAC, to reach additional residents in need.
"These grant awards and the deployment of the Mobile Food Pantry will help ensure that our local pantries have the resources they need to serve residents quickly and efficiently. Passaic County is committed to supporting our community and making sure no one goes without food during this time,” says Passaic County Commissioner Rodney De Vore.
Passaic County is providing this emergency food assistance to help address the current crisis and support the well-being of residents. Updates will be shared at www.passaiccountynj.org and on @PassaicCountyNJ social media channels.
Residents enrolled in SNAP should continue submitting all required documentation so that benefits can resume as soon as federal funding becomes available.
