Paterson Families Invited to Free Community Block Party with Backpacks, BBQ, and Resources Ahead of the School Year

Hosted by Paterson Task Force and Pilgrim Mission Church Outside Hilltop Haven Shelter
PATERSON, NJ — Paterson families are invited to a free Community Block Party on Saturday, August 16, 2025, hosted by Paterson Task Force and Pilgrim Mission Church, taking place outside Hilltop Haven, one of Paterson Task Force’s emergency shelters, located at 36–38 Circle Avenue. The event begins at 11:30 AM.
This back-to-school celebration will offer local families a day of connection, support, and joy—while directly reaching those most in need. The event aims to equip children and caregivers with essential resources for a successful school year and create a festive space for families to come together.
Event highlights include:
● Free backpacks and school supplies courtesy of the Paterson Rotary Club
○ Backpack supply is limited and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis
● BBQ and food for all ages
● Games, music, bounce house, and family fun
● Access to local support services and family-focused resources
“This is what community looks like,” said Darien Allen, Executive Director of Paterson Task Force. “By hosting this event outside one of our shelters, we’re reminding families that no matter their circumstances, they are seen, supported, and celebrated.”
The event is made possible thanks to generous collaboration with community partners including Paterson Rotary Club #3790, Families For Families, Metro Hope Mission, G Foundation, Praise Ground Choir, and Wellpoint.
