Sherrill Statement on National Guard Deployment in DC

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after President Trump announced he will be deploying the National Guard to Washington, DC, and putting city police under federal control:

“Once again, President Trump is using our service members and law enforcement for political games to distract from his disastrous policies that are driving up costs and creating chaos in New Jersey and across the country. Violent crime has fallen steadily over the last two years — but Trump never lets facts get in the way. He’d rather use our military as a prop to further his own political agenda. Trump’s not concerned about crime, he’s focused on consolidating his own power.”
