The Paterson City Council voted tonight for Arab community leader and Democratic Party co-chair Al Abdelaziz to succeed Mayor Andre Sayegh as 6th Ward Councilman.  At 30, he becomes the youngest person to take a seat on the Council in city history.

It was unanimous, 8-0.

“I am truly humbled by the support and trust that the Council has placed in me, and I look forward to working hard to continue the progress in the 6th Ward,” said Abdelaziz.

He’ll run in a November special election for the remainder of the term.
