Alert to Reelection Record of NJ Dem Governors, Christie Tells County GOP Chairs to ‘Hang in There’

At a morning Drumthwacket meeting he convened with the Republican county chairs, Governor Chris Christie reminded GOP leaders that no Democratic governor has been reelected in New Jersey since “One-Term Byrne” won reelection in 1977.

“Hang in there,” Christie told the chairs, as the state prepares for Christie’s administration to transition in the new year to Governor-elect Phil Murphy.

Irritated by Murphy’s decision to pose with a cardboard cutout of himself, the outgoing Governor thanked the chairs for their support over his eight years in office and made a few jokes about having to drive again.

“He’s been an incredible governor who people won’t realize the positive impact of until he has gone,” said Burlington County GOP Chair Bill Layton.

  1. Christie won no legislative seats, oversaw a flawed and D-leaning redistricting, sucked all of the money out of the GOP and created a political environment where Guadango could not win. Moreover, he led a scandal-ridden administration and increased our debt. Plus, he was never here. What a legacy!
