The Arango Archives: Getting a Peek at a 1980s Era Sires Stache

Hudson County Republican Committee Chairman Jose Arango today posted a picture of himself with former Governor Tom Kean and a mustachioed (and GOP) version of future U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8) back in the heyday of Hudson County Republican politics.

  1. Albio had a patronage job in the Kean Administration. He and Jose worked in DCA under John Renna. They, along with Lee Lichtenberger, Ron Dario, Charlie Catrillio and Billy Connolly were helpful in establishing a GOP presence in Hudson County. In the 80s, we elected were Republican freeholders and even GOP Assemblymen for a short period of time. Albio took the easy way out and switched parties after he lost a mayoral race as a Republican. Even though he went on the be an Assemblyman, Speaker and Congressman, he will remain a turncoat.
