COVID-19 has claimed the lives of six more Atlantic County residents, according to the county’s Division of Public Health, which reported the deaths of four elderly women and two elderly men earlier today, April 23.

Each of the fatalities had pre-existing conditions that put them at higher risk for complications. Five of the patients were from Hammonton and included a 70-year old man, two 79-year old women, a 75-year old woman, and a 98-year old woman. The sixth patient was a 79-year old man from Galloway.

The county also reported 33 new positive cases among 13 men, ages 26-90 and 20 women, ages 22-97.

To date, 551 residents have tested positive, 29 have died, and 108 have been cleared as recovered.

Today’s cases included five residents from Galloway and Northfield; four residents from Egg Harbor Township and Hammonton; three from Atlantic City; two residents from Linwood, Mullica Township, Somers Point and Ventnor; and one from Buena Vista Township, Folsom, Hamilton Township and Margate.

Atlantic County will provide two additional test dates next week on Tuesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 30, by appointment only, for symptomatic county residents with a doctor’s prescription. The testing will be conducted behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing, 10 AM – 1 PM.

Residents may make an appointment online at www.aclink.org. In addition to the doctor’s prescription, residents must also provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, as well as the appointment confirmation.

Those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.

Atlantic County has previously provided testing for first responders and healthcare workers as well as four test dates for the general public. The county has obtained 800 test kits in total.

The statewide COVID-19 count grew by 4,427 cases and 307 deaths for a total of 99,989 cases and 5,368 fatalities in total as of Thursday, April 23rd.
