ATU NJ State Council Backs Endorsement of Mejia

Recognizing her commitment to workers' rights, social justice, transit, and equal rights for all, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) New Jersey State Council, will announcement their endorsement of Analilia Mejia for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District at noon, on Wednesday, March 18 at the NJ Transit Light Rail Station in Bloomfield, NJ.

"The ATU is proud to endorse Analilia Mejia for Congress," said Orlando Riley, Chair of the ATU NJ State Council Chair, representing nearly 10,000 NJ Transit workers. “We know Analilia well. She knows the importance of robust public transit, affordable housing, safe communities, labor unions, and equal opportunities for all. She will be a strong voice in the halls of Congress for the people of New Jersey’s 11th congressional district.”

The daughter of Columbian and Dominican immigrants, Analilia Mejia grew up with her mother holding various jobs struggling to make ends meet until her mom got a union job. That inspired Analilia to pursue a career in the labor movement as a union organizer. She rose to become the Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance. Analilia worked for Bernie Sanders’ Presidential Campaign and in the Labor Department for President Joe Biden. She currently serves as Co-Executive Director of grassroots organization Popular Democracy.

“A friend of the ATU, Analilia has consistently stood up for the interests of transit workers, our passengers, and labor unions including supporting the Millionaires Tax that helped provide critical funding for NJ Transit.  We stand with Analilia and look forward to sending her to Congress,” said ATU International President JohnCosta, a former Chair of the ATU NJ State Joint Council.
