Bankston Draws First Ballot in Newark’s South Ward Contest

In his attempt to dethrone South Ward Councilman John Sharpe James, challenger Terence Bankston a short time ago pulled C1 in the Newark ballot drawing.

James pulled C3.

“I’m going to let my work speak for itself,” James told InsiderNJ after the drawing.

Everyone else on the mayor’s ticket pulled the first ballot except James and Joe McCallum.

Incumbent Mayor Ras Baraka also drew first ballot as he looks to stare down Central Ward Councilwoman Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins.

  2. “His record, is why we are running for the South Ward council position. The South Ward of Newark, is up 300 percent in murders, with a rise in most murders, being committed by black males under the age of 25 years old. Moreover, we have 10-closed public schools, just in the south ward alone.

The present councilperson’s record will indicate he holds a full time job at the county of Essex and therefore is not available to better address the daily needs of the South Ward Residents. In addition, that he remains silent on all significant issues, or challenges plaguing the ward. Lastly, John James has had a rather ineffective relationship with the Mayor. The South Ward of Newark, Needs Leadership, NOT LEGACY.” https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e675d82bf1127d9c09b754d42d6ba905b5f7ef5ab8148ac21eba2457c3bdbc18.jpg
