Baraka Backs Diaz for Mayor in Perth Amboy
Below is a statement by Newark Mayor Ras Baraka:
“As the first female Mayor of Perth Amboy, the first Latina Mayor of the State of New Jersey and first Latina President of the New Jersey Urban Mayors Association, Mayor Wilda Diaz has been a steady leader on policy and progress for our State. As a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy, she has a proven track record of service, has overcome many challenges and has worked tirelessly to improve her community.
“As we begin our transition to recovery from the pandemic, Perth Amboy needs proven leadership such as hers to get them through this crisis. She has already gotten her City through Superstorm Sandy in which she fought for funds to transform Perth Amboy’s waterfront to a state-of-the-art waterfront and also reduced the City of Perth Amboy’s overall debt by over $50 million that saved her community from near bankruptcy.
“I can affirm that Mayor Diaz leads by heart and her community’s best interests and not by politics, she fights for her community and is a true trailblazer that all of her residents and women around the State should look up to and be proud of.
Today, I endorse Mayor Wilda Diaz for Mayor of the City of Perth Amboy. ”
