BCDO Chairman Stellato To Saudino: ‘Resign’

Following calls from both Governor Murphy and Bergen County Executive Tedesco for Sheriff Mike Saudino to step down, Bergen County Democratic Committee Chairman Lou Stellato echoed their call, urging the embattled Sheriff to resign.

“I am shocked by the offensive comments used by Sheriff Saudino. These remarks are both inconsistent with the Democratic values we hold dear and the character of the Michael Saudino I have known,” said Stellato in a statement.

“Intolerance and discrimination can never be accepted at any level and he should resign,” the chairman concluded.

Earlier today, WNYC published a report containing audio with perceived racist remarks – against blacks and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal – made by the sheriff after the Governor’s inaugural address.  Murphy called on Saudino to resign, as did Executive Tedesco, while Tedesco’s GOP opponent Norman Schmelz tore into Saudino and county government.   Attorney General Grewal said Saudino should ‘resign immediately’ if the Sheriff is the voice on the audio.
