BCRO Looks to Durante

It's been a long time since Bergen County Republicans had all that much to cheer about.

Veterans of state politics recall when the then largely suburban county - the most populous in New Jersey - was dominated by the GOP.

Things changed slowly at first, and then not so slowly.

Democrats now hold all countrywide elected posts and all but two of the six legislative districts covering at least parts of the county. They also hold the relevant congressional seats.

This is not necessarily an accident. The county now has almost 90,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans.

This has led to some political infighting, a common occurrence when a political party is struggling.

Just a few days ago, however, the Bergen County Republican Organization reorganized with no turmoil at all.

The new chair, Vincent Durante of Upper Saddle River, and his entire slate of officers - vice-chair down to sergeant at arms - was elected with no opposition.

The BCRO social media page had this to say about him:

"Vinny is a former Councilman of Upper Saddle River and a proven leader. He and his team delivered a strong and inspiring message encouraging all Republicans to come together and work collectively for the success of the organization."

The convention in Ramsey was closed to the press, which seemed a bit odd. Bergen Republicans probably could use all the attention they can get.
