the Republican candidates in battleground LD8 – no longer supports Westampton Twp. Committee candidate Karl Eversmeyer, who the chairman said should apologize for donning blackface as part of a Halloween costume in 2009.

InsiderNJ earlier today reported the news about the candidate’s offensive Facebook post.

“The Burlington County Republican Committee has a proud history of diversity and of promoting women and minorities as candidates for elected office dating back decades,” Earlen said in a statement.

“Anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to paint themselves in blackface is not consistent with those values. I have spoken to Mr. Eversmeyer to let him know we are withdrawing our support for his Township Committee candidacy. Sheriff Stanfield, Assemblyman Peters, Freeholder Tiver, Undersheriff Ditzel and Committeewoman Schneider all completely disavow these offensive actions and back up my call for him to step aside and apologize.”

The LD8 Democrats also condemned Eversmeyer.
