Burzichelli: 295/Hawks Bridge Road Overpass Reopens

Closed for more than a year due to structural damage sustained in February 2023, the overpass at the Route 295 interchange and Hawks Bridge Road reopened today, according to the LD-3 Legislative Office.

Senator John Burzichelli and Assembly Members Heather Simmons and Dave Bailey, Jr. joined New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials this morning to formally announce the overpass reopening, made possible with temporary repairs that include the replacement of several diaphragms (which are cross section supports under the bridge deck) and concrete repairs.

“Getting this overpass issue resolved has been a top priority for us since taking office in January, and we are pleased to let the public know it is once again open for traffic,” said Burzichelli. “We appreciate the New Jersey Department of Transportation for their responsiveness and dedication to getting this done, and we look forward to them fully finishing this project later in the year.”

Simmons added, “Seeing this road reopened is a big step in the right direction for residents, commuters, and our local business community as they have been extraordinarily patient during its closure. We will continue to stay in close contact with the NJDOT until repairs are fully completed, and we will continue to share updates with everyone along the way.”

“It is important to us to make sure that Salem, Cumberland, and Gloucester Counties are never ignored or overlooked in Trenton, and we will continue to work our hardest to that end,” said Bailey. “That includes us advocating for the small businesses impacted by the closure and exhausting every option to help them recover their financial losses.”
