Caba Fields His School Board Team in Perth Amboy

The “2020 Vision for Perth Amboy” campaign now has four well-qualified, knowledgeable candidates running for the city Board of Education on the Nov. 3rd ballot, according to mayoral hopeful Helmin J. Caba.

Running for Perth Amboy’s school board under the “2020 Vision for Education” banner are: Willie DeJesus, Michael D. George, Marisol Gonzalez and Stacey Peralta. Caba said “these accomplished candidates collectively have five decades of experience educating children and assisting local families.”

“Our school district – like City Hall – needs energetic new leaders with innovative ideas to make positive changes that will benefit our children and families,” said Councilman Caba, also the city Democratic Chairman. “Willie, Michael, Marisol and Stacey are the best qualified choices to address our school district’s most vital issues.”

Their expertise includes: Curriculum; preschool education; special education for children with disabilities; cutting-edge technologies, district administration and years of community service.

The four candidates pledge to enhance curriculum and technology; improve teacher resources; strengthen school safety; and reduce classroom overcrowding. The “Vision 2020” School Board candidates are:

  • Willie DeJesus, a police officer in Scotch Plains and Perth Amboy since 2016. He previously worked with non-profit social service agencies helping needy and homeless families find safe housing, healthcare and meaningful jobs.
  • Michael D. George retired from the Perth Amboy School District in 2003 after a distinguished, 35-year career as biology teacher, vice principal and principal. He holds a Masters degree in school administration and supervision. He is also former chairman of the city’s Port Authority.
  • Marisol M. Gonzalez is an experienced occupational therapist with a host of special education credentials; expertise in infant and child development; family education and criminology. She has dual Master’s degrees in occupational therapy and education.
  • Stacey Peralta is director of the Puerto Rican Assoc. for Human Development’s Mi Escuelita Preschool. She has a Masters in special education; taught Spanish and mathematics and was site director for the Boys and Girls Club of Perth Amboy.
