Chair Schaffer Unanimously Reelected Somerset County Democratic Chair

Peg Schaffer was reelected Somerset County Democratic Chair by acclamation at the quadrennial reorganization meeting in Montgomery, NJ. Schaffer and her running mate, Vice Chair Joe DeMarco, ran unopposed following a complete transformation of Somerset County from red to blue.

“I am truly honored to be reelected chair of the Somerset County Democrats, and to continue working to select and elect great Democratic candidates who deliver good government for all our constituents,” said Schaffer. “At a dangerous time for our democracy, we will continue to fight for the ideals codified into the Declaration of Independence 250 years ago at all levels of our government.”

Schaffer was nominated by District 17 Assemblyman Joe Danielsen, who said, “On this great national anniversary, we have a choice of 250 more years of progress and freedom, or a cowardly retreat into a past of bigotry and separation. Fortunately, the Somerset County Democrats are forward-thinking, and that is why I am honored and excited to nominate Peg Schaffer, a proven leader in this fight, to once again serve as our Somerset County Democratic Chair.”

In 2026, Somerset County Democrats are supporting incumbent Cory Booker for US Senate, two veterans running for Congress in Rebecca Bennett of Bridgewater in CD7 and Adam Hamawy in CD12. Commissioners Paul Drake and Elizabeth Graner are running for reelection, and gains are expected in multiple communities across the county.
