Speaker Craig Coughlin Tells Reporters He was Unruffled by Millionaire’s Tax Ads

Speaker Craig Coughlin says he opposed a millionaire's tax going back to October of last year, and money dumping into New Directions NJ's millionaire’s tax campaign didn’t alter his essential attitude.

Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-19) said he opposed a millionaire's tax going back to October of last year, and money dumping into the millionaire’s tax campaign didn’t alter his essential attitude.

“The fact that New Directions NJ was running ads didn’t change my analysis,” he said, referring to the TV ads released by Governor Phil Murphy’s allies.

He gave his answer in response to a question by veteran Bergen Record columnist Charles Stile.

The ads were designed to be divisive to the assembly, the speaker said.

“I’m proud to stick up for the assembly,” Coughlin added.

  1. Way to go Speaker! We didn’t want Murphy’s crumbs at someone else’s expense. We don’t need California policies here.
