Councilman Danny Rivera Joins Team McGreevey

Team McGreevey today announced that Councilman Danny Rivera will run with Jim McGreevey and the Team McGreevey slate in the upcoming runoff election. Rivera, a respected public servant and proud leader within Jersey City’s Puerto Rican and broader Hispanic community, joins a growing coalition of Latino leaders, including Jennise Sarmiento and Israel Nieves, who ran earlier this year as part of Team McGreevey’s at-large ticket.
“Jennise Sarmiento is a community leader whose family has proudly led the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Jersey City, celebrating heritage, faith, and the unity of our Latino families,” stated Jim McGreevey, candidate for Mayor. “She represents the next generation of civic leadership, rooted in service, compassion, and cultural pride. Her commitment to empowering families and young people reflects the very best of Jersey City.”
McGreevey continued, “Israel Nieves, a decorated Marine veteran of Puerto Rican ancestry, embodies the courage, discipline, and devotion to country that define our city’s finest. His service to both the nation and community reflects the same spirit of sacrifice and leadership that we need in Jersey City government. Israel, Jennise, and so many others in our Hispanic community have strengthened the very fabric of this city through their service, faith, and family values.”
Building on that legacy of leadership, Councilman Danny Rivera brings years of experience and a proven record of results to Team McGreevey. Rivera has been a tireless advocate for the Puerto Rican and Hispanic communities, supporting cultural celebrations, expanding youth recreation, improving senior services, and strengthening small businesses throughout Jersey City. He has partnered with neighborhood and faith-based organizations to advance education, workforce training, and bilingual outreach, ensuring that City Hall remains accessible to every resident.
“Danny Rivera represents the heart and soul of Jersey City, steady, compassionate leadership grounded in community,” stated McGreevey. “He’s worked tirelessly to improve public safety, expand youth programs, and deliver real help to families in need. His deep commitment to our Puerto Rican and Hispanic communities reflects the cultural pride and civic strength that make Jersey City extraordinary.”
“The Puerto Rican and Hispanic communities are the heartbeat of Jersey City,” stated Rivera. “Our culture, faith, and hard work have shaped this city’s identity. I’m proud to stand with Team McGreevey in continuing to deliver results, safer streets, affordable housing, and opportunities for every family. Together, we’ll build a stronger, more united Jersey City.”
McGreevey concluded, “Danny Rivera, Jennise Sarmiento, and Israel Nieves each bring a record of service and a deep love for this city. Together, they represent the strength, integrity, and diversity of Jersey City, a city that thrives when every voice is heard and every family has a fair chance to succeed.”
