Today, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) endorsed Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle for State Senate in New Jersey’s 37th Legislative District.

CWA represents more than 70,000 working families in The Garden State – including 40,000 state workers, 15,000 county and municipal workers, and thousands of workers in the telecommunications, airlines, healthcare and direct care industries. Many of them live and work in Bergen County.  Following the retirement of Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, CWA strongly believes Huttle is the best person to stand up for working families and the issues that matter to everyone who lives in New Jersey.

“It didn’t take a pandemic for Valerie Huttle to understand it’s important to have the back of working men and women, ” said Hetty Rosenstein, CWA NJ Area Director. “Huttle always fights for people and their families. And we need her in the State Senate to keep fighting for progressive issues, women’s issues, equality and human services. Huttle’s consistently shown a substantive engagement with both people and policy. Huttle stands in striking contrast with the superficiality and shallowness we’ve sadly seen from machine politicians for far too long.”

“When a deranged person stabbed child welfare worker Leah Coleman over twenty times nearly killing her, Valerie Huttle was one of the first people to reach out.  And it wasn’t just talk,” said Shawn Ludwig, CWA Local 1038 President. “Huttle led the charge on ‘Leah’s Law’ – to enhance safety and security for caseworkers both in the field and in the office.  Huttle knows how to take action to help people.”

“Valerie Huttle understands the value of the institutions our members work in each and every day,” said Carolyn Wade, CWA Local 1040 President. “Huttle is deeply versed in policy, and also deeply engaged. She cares about the work our members do and how it matters to clients, parents and the entire state.”

“Through my work with the New Jersey Time To Care Coalition, I’ve seen up-close how much Valerie Huttle values working families,” said Michele Liebtag CWA Local 1036.  “Huttle’s commitment to family leave and the needs of parents is long-standing.  And every mom, dad and grandparent who needed leave to take care of kids during the COVID pandemic should know they have Valerie Huttle to thank.”

“As someone who grew up in Teaneck, lives in Hackensack and works for CWA, I’ve witnessed first-hand how Valerie Huttle puts families first, protects children and honors seniors.” said Estina Baker, CWA Senior Campaign Lead, “Our members know that Valerie Huttle is the one person we can always count on.”
