Election Day Signs in the South Ward: Take the (Charter) Money and Run

Unity ticket candidate Flo Johnson – a backer of charter schools – cannot be happy with signs in Newark’s South Ward on Election Day.

Those signs (pictured above) proclaim unity, but not with Johnson.

Josephine Garcia and Reggie Bledsoe (the two other candidates on the so-called Board of Education unity slate) appear with Pat Bradford. An employee of the city fire department, Bradford is a Mayor Ras Baraka loyalist.

“Take your money and cut you out,” said a Newark source, referring to the thousands of dollars the charter school backers poured into the unity slate.
