Essex Freeholder Board Formally Welcomes Freeholder Cooper

On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders welcomed their newest member, Tyshammie L. Cooper, as the representative of District 3.  District 3 is comprised of East Orange, South Orange, Orange and part of Newark’s West Ward. Freeholder Cooper, a resident of East Orange, has extensive experience serving the constituents of this community. 

Prior to being elected to the Board earlier this month, Cooper spent the last five years as a Councilwoman for the city of East Orange.   

Freeholder President Brendan W. Gill opened the ceremonies by welcoming Cooper to the Board. He proceeded to thank all of the elected officials in attendance, as well as the family and friends of Cooper, for supporting her and taking time out of their schedule to attend the ceremony.  

Freeholder Vice President Wayne L. Richardson also extended Cooper a warm welcome from the Board. He offered greetings to the guests and dignitaries in attendance before introducing State Assemblywoman Britney N. Timberlake, who is also former District 3 Freeholder, to officially swear in Freeholder Cooper. 

In her speech, the new freeholder thanked her family, friends, outgoing Freeholder Janine G. Bauer, and fellow colleagues in the Democratic Party. She expressed her excitement and eagerness to work with the Board, as well as the County Administration, and continue the process of putting Essex County First. 

Essex County Democratic Chairman Leroy Jones, Jr., spoke glowingly of Freeholder Cooper as well. He praised her for her diligent work, her service to the community, and her forward looking approach.   

Also in attendance for the ceremony were Freeholders At-Large Patricia Sebold, Lebby Jones, and Rufus I. Johnson, District 1 Freeholder Robert Mercado, District 4 Freeholder Leonard M. Luciano, and District 5 Freeholder Carlos M. Pomares.
