On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders welcomed their newest member, Tyshammie L. Freeholder Cooper, a resident of East Orange, has extensive experience serving the constituents of this community.

Prior to being elected to the Board earlier this month, Cooper spent the last five years as a Councilwoman for the city of East Orange.

Freeholder Vice President Wayne L. Richardson also extended Cooper a warm welcome from the Board. He offered greetings to the guests and dignitaries in attendance before introducing State Assemblywoman Britney N. Timberlake, who is also former District 3 Freeholder, to officially swear in Freeholder Cooper.

In her speech, the new freeholder thanked her family, friends, outgoing Freeholder Janine G. Bauer, and fellow colleagues in the Democratic Party. She expressed her excitement and eagerness to work with the Board, as well as the County Administration, and continue the process of putting Essex County First.

Essex County Democratic Chairman Leroy Jones, Jr., spoke glowingly of Freeholder Cooper as well. He praised her for her diligent work, her service to the community, and her forward looking approach.

Also in attendance for the ceremony were Freeholders At-Large Patricia Sebold, Lebby Jones, and Rufus I. Johnson, District 1 Freeholder Robert Mercado, District 4 Freeholder Leonard M. Luciano, and District 5 Freeholder Carlos M. Pomares.
