Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Irvington Police Director Tracy Bowers announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting of Tony King, 50, of Newark.

On August 25, at 11:26 p.m., police were notified of an alleged shooting at the 100 block of Isabella Avenue, Irvington. Police arrived and found King outside suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 12:05 a.m. today.

Mr. King was a law enforcement professional with the Essex County Department of Corrections.
