Fredon Mayor John Flora Declares Candidacy for 5th Congressional District Run

John P. Flora, the mayor of Fredon Township, Sussex County, today announced his candidacy for Congress in the 5th District. Flora, a Republican, will seek the party’s nomination next June to face off against incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer.

Flora has spent three years on the Fredon Township Committee – and was re-elected to another term in November. He has been a member of the Fredon School Board for 10 years – nine years as president.

“I am running because middle class people like me and my neighbors are not being represented in Congress. Our values are not respected and slowly, but surely, the great nation that is America is slipping away from us,” said Flora, the owner of beverage company.

Flora is particularly concerned about what he says is the progressive left’s attempts to shape school curriculums to fit their anti-American narrative.

“Our public-school students are not getting an education; they are getting an indoctrination. They are being taught to be ashamed of their country,” said Flora. “Students are not learning the skills they need to compete in the workplace and that will only weaken America.”

Flora and his wife Linda are the parents of two grown boys. He says he fears for his children’s future if “the left-wing Democrats keep pushing the country toward socialism and lawlessness.”

“Local governments are now condoning rioting and looting. The government is showing more concern for criminals than law abiding people. I want to go to Congress and fight for respect for law-and-order and stop the virus of lawlessness that is spreading throughout the country,” said Flora.

A self-employed businessman for 31 years, Flora says the progressive’s tax policies will cripple small businesses, many of which have already suffered under the pandemic lockdowns.

“America used to be a place that admired hard work. Now people like Nancy Pelosi and Josh Gottheimer want to punish hard work and success. The political left is undermining the work ethic that made this nation great and that has to be reversed for our nation to prosper,” added Flora.

Flora says his campaign will focus on several key areas:

Parental Rights in Education: Parents have a right to have meaningful input into the school curriculum. What is taught in schools is not the province of education bureaucrats or teachers’ unions.  Parents have a right to educational input and total curriculum transparency.

Funding follows the student: In too many communities, public education is not working. I want to give parents a right to choose a school that excels at education.

Protecting the Middle Class: With each new tax proposal and each new edict from Washington, the Middle Class suffers. The taxes and regulations that the left promotes ultimately fall on Middle Class households and workers, not the rich. I will not support a single additional regulation or tax that burdens the Middle Class.

Respect for Law and order: Our country cannot move forward to meet the challenges of the future if our communities are riddled with crime and lawlessness. Safety is a human right. Crime must be prosecuted; and criminals belong in jail.

Reduce Federal Spending and Debt.  The spending by the Biden Administration has created an inflation tax levied against the Middle Class. Inflation is eating into household incomes and business profits.

Government Decentralization– Throughout the pandemic government officials have been exerting more power over individuals and businesses; power they are not entitled to. It’s time to take back control of our lives. Top-down government is to be feared. It is the government of dictators.

“The upcoming election is all about getting America back on the right course and returning power to the governed. I’ll be fighting for hard-working, law-abiding people,” concluded Flora.

  1. He also doesn’t realize that Congressman have no impact on school boards or curriculum. I’ll have some things to say about this dweeb in my column.

      • I can’t post the link here, it’s called “The Sussex County Informer”.

Don’t get confused by “The Real Sussex County Informer”, that’s a Republican ripoff page.

  2. And now, another Republican knucklehead who knows nothing about government.

Introducing John Flora, the mayor of Fredon Township in Sussex County, who has declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination to lose to, I mean, challenge, Congressman Josh Gottheimer next November.

Flora was just re-elected to another term on the Fredon Township Committee, and has also been a member of the Board of Education for the past decade.   So it’s perplexing how one so experienced can be completely clueless.  He accuses the left (read: Democrats) of being anti-American with regards to the teaching of our schoolchildren–a totally stupid claim, but falling right in line with the right-wing nut jobs so prevalent in Sussex County.

“Our public-school students are not getting an education; they are getting an indoctrination. They are being taught to be ashamed of their country,” said Flora. “Students are not learning the skills they need to compete in the workplace and that will only weaken America.”

First of all, that’s total BS.  “Indoctrination” is code for “exposing students to different points of view”, and particularly applies to the totally debunked theory that Critical Race Theory is being taught in the schools, which it isn’t.  And Flora can’t show one instance where it is.  But second, if the school boards are responsible for curriculum, then, and I’m just spitballing here, but isn’t that an indictment of YOUR COMPETENCY AS A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER?  And you, John, have been Board president for the LAST NINE YEARS!!!  So if you can’t manage your own schools, what makes you think you can be a Congressman?

Oh, and by the way–since school boards are local, explain how a Congressman has any impact on school curriculum.  And schools are funded at the state level, through local property taxes–which definitely DO NOT fall under federal jurisdiction.  So, Mr. Flora, how are the alleged failings of an educational system YOU HELP ADMINISTER in any way Josh Gottheimer’s fault?

    Here’s some more lunacy:
“Local governments are now condoning rioting and looting. The government is showing more concern for criminals than law abiding people. I want to go to Congress and fight for respect for law-and-order and stop the virus of lawlessness that is spreading throughout the country,” said Flora.

    Really?
    Condoning?
Government showing more concern for criminals?
The government tried to convict Kyle Rittenkiller, but a myopic judge made sure that didn’t happen.
And you want law and order?  Then stop your Republican buddies from letting the National Rifle Association pimp them out and allow REAL gun law reform, rather than cooing “thoughts and prayers” every time there’s a mass shooting!

Speaking of which–he labels Kyle Rittenkiller “an American hero”.  Shows you how warped his values, not to mention his mind, is.

“America used to be a place that admired hard work. Now people like Nancy Pelosi and Josh Gottheimer want to punish hard work and success. The political left is undermining the work ethic that made this nation great and that has to be reversed for our nation to prosper,” says Flora.

Ah, yes, blame Nancy Pelosi for everything.  More red meat to the rabid dogs who will line up behind any Republican.  Hey, John, your own house is in crappy shape; why not take care of Fredon instead of feeding your ego in a race you’ll never win?

Wait, there’s more:  “The spending by the Biden Administration has created an inflation tax levied against the middle class”.  But were you complaining when Trump spent taxpayer dollars to create the “Space Force”, enrich his businesses and put money in his own pocket?

Let’s face it.  This homespun dweeb is just one more Republican liar in the mold of his fellow dreamers, Filthy Frank Pallotta and Sharia Nick D’Agostino.  John, stick to your current job hoodwinking the good people of Fredon.  It will be a freezing day in hell when you get anywhere near the Capitol, except as a visitor.

  3. I don’t know John Flora the politician, but I do know John Flora, the man. Years ago I met John through a mutual friend. I was floundering young man finding my way. John took me in and put me to work as a handyman. He helped me through that episode that so many of us go through. I lost touch with John after getting on with life but what I took with me was the idea; that with hard work and perseverance you can have a good life. I don’t know what kind of a politician John is, but I know what kind of a man he is.
