Fulop Campaign Launches Petition Urging Governor Murphy to Reject Corporate Tax Cuts

Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop

In response to Governor Murphy’s continued insistence on cutting taxes for major corporate giants like Amazon and Walmart, the Fulop for Governor campaign has launched a petition drive aimed at rallying support for preserving the Corporate Business Tax Surcharge and dedicating the $1 billion in annual revenue that it generates to funding NJ TRANSIT. Mayor Fulop was the first major state leader to propose making the tax permanent and dedicated the funding to public transit initiatives earlier this year, and since then Senate President Nicholas Scutari has signaled support for the plan as well as numerous leading progressive advocacy groups and budgetary experts.

“New Jersey can’t afford to prioritize corporate profits at the expense of our vital public infrastructure, and allowing NJ TRANSIT services to suffer while major corporations reap substantial tax breaks is unacceptable and illogical,” said Mayor Fulop. “Our state’s future relies on responsible policymaking that supports the needs of our residents, and that’s exactly what our #FixNJ agenda is designed to address. We should ensure that the funds generated from the Corporate Business Tax surcharge are directed where they are most needed — towards maintaining and improving vital transportation services for the people of New Jersey.”

This proposed corporate tax cut has sparked major concerns regarding its likely impact on essential public services. At the forefront is NJ TRANSIT, which is facing an impending budget deficit that poses a significant threat to crucial rail and bus services across the state. The Fulop for Governor campaign is taking a bold stand against this corporate tax cut proposal, advocating for the extension of the Corporate Business Tax surcharge and, importantly, allocating its revenue to bolster public transit. Mayor Fulop believes this redirection of funds will safeguard essential transportation services that countless New Jersey residents rely on daily.

The campaign invites all concerned residents and supporters to join their cause by signing and sharing the petition, amplifying the collective voice against the proposed tax cut and in support of preserving crucial public services.
