The Union County Democratic committee tonight tapped Hillside Mayor Angela Garretson to be one of three nominees for freeholder.  The story was first reported by InsiderNJ last week.

She will replace retiring Freeholder Vernell Wright on the Democrats’ countywide ticket.

The committee also backed incumbent Freeholder Angel Estrada and incumbent Freeholder Chris Hudak.

Pete Corvelli got the organization’s nod for sheriff, the replacement for Sheriff Joe Cryan, who’s running for state senate in LD20.

Retired Goldman Sachs executive Phil Murphy personally showed up to ask for the county party organization’s support in his bid for governor, which he received.
