The International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.) Local 68 today endorsed the campaign of Pamela Thomas-Fields for mayor of Atlantic City. The union, which represents over 6,000 members statewide, expressed their support and emphasized the importance of the July 7 election.

“Being mayor of Atlantic City is not a job for the faint of heart,” said Assemblyman Tom Giblin (D-34), business manager for Local 68. “It will require a leader who possesses vision, pragmatic leadership, and understands the entire community. Pam, with her many years of experience in municipal government, knows the right path to guide us for the next generation.”

“It is essential that Atlantic City builds a diverse economy where small businesses and our casino employers both thrive,” Giblin added. “Atlantic City must be a community that is healthy, wealthy, and wise, where we maintain our neighborhoods and attract new families to our community. This election is all about Atlantic City having the very best in the mayor’s seat. Pamela Thomas-Fields is that answer. What she brings to the office as a parent of two, a long-time party activist, and an individual who’s respected by all areas of the city, makes her the right person at the right time to move Atlantic City forward for the years ahead.

“Our unions are the heart and soul of our families and communities,” said Thomas-Fields of the endorsement. “Their support speaks volumes to what we aim to do in Atlantic City. As we restart our lives after this pandemic, I look forward to working with their members and leadership to rebuild our city better than ever before.”

The union’s endorsement comes in addition to support from the Atlantic City Democratic Committee, the Stockton Federation of Teachers Local 2275, the Bangladesh Community of Atlantic City, Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker, and progressive U.S. Senate candidate Larry Hamm.
