Gopal in Battleground Battle Mode

Atlantic City, half in and half out: Weinberg and Gopal.

Anchored by host Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, the friends of incumbent state Senator Vin Gopal (D-11) held a fundraiser for him last night.

They raised $45,000 toward the senator’s reelection campaign.

Guests included U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11) and Democratic State Party Chairman LeRoy Jones.

Others in the room at 1776 by David Burke in Morristown included host committee member Brendan Gill, the Essex County commissioner, and David MInchello, of Rainone Cooughlin and Minchello, where Speaker Craig Coughlin serves as one of the principals.

The occupant of a battleground district where the GOP hopes to make gains, Gopal appears to be heading toward a faceoff with Steve Dnistrian of Colts Neck Township in this year’s general election. Republicans hope Dnistrian, a business and non-profit executive, “will bring real leadership, grounded in real-work experience, to the State Senate for LD-11.”

Gopal has other plans as he seeks to keep his seat in the “D” column.

A former Monmouth County Democratic Committee chair, Gopal won the senate seat in 2017 when he defeated incumbent state Senator Jen Beck (R-11) and won reelection in 2021.

Editors Note: The host committee for last night’s event hosted by Mayor Dougherty included Fairview Insurance Agency Associates, whose founder, John F.X. Graham, also serves as InsiderNJ.com publisher.

  1. So the committee for last night’s event included Fairview Insurance Agency Associates, whose founder, John F.X. Graham, serves as an InsiderNJ.com publisher.
    Not too biased is there?
    Anyone see a conflict here?

Sherrill’s appearance not a surprise. She answers emails to her office with form letter fluff, so It’s no wonder she has the time.

  2. Representative Sherrill has been responsive to our requests. I wonder if you are calling the office for your concerns. I am confident you would hear from her.
