Jones to Democrats: ‘Work Harder, Worry Less’

As members of his party try to figure out what to do about President Joe Biden, Democratic State Committee Chairman LeRoy Jones has a message for the troops in this presidential campaign season.

“We need to work harder and worry less,” Jones told InsiderNJ.

Biden is the party nominee for president and his supporters, Jones said, need to “stay focused.”

The chairman is pleased with the job Biden has done for the country and for New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy today delivered remarks regarding the Hudson Tunnel project, a long-stalled initiative ramrodded by Biden.

Notwithstanding the chairman’s support for the incumbent president and another four years, party members behind the scenes continue to pull their hair out over Biden’s debate performance last month and his subsequent inability to look situationally aware. Off-the-record groans greeted his interview Friday night with ABC News personality George Stephanopoulos, and news of the White House furnishing friendly questions to a Philadelphia interviewer for the president likewise prompted exasperation and disgust.

But Jones – and others on background in the NJ Democratic Party – say the country needs to keep its eyes on the prize. The chair said he is committed to defeating convicted felon Donald Trump – the Republican nominee for president – with Biden, whose record speaks for itself.

The president himself today told Capitol Hill Dems to stop freaking out.

“I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump,” Biden wrote in a letter, obtained by CNN.

“The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end,” he added. “We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump. We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump.”

  1. It’s not that I’m worried about Joe Biden leading down-ballot Democrats to defeat or the prospect of a Trump dictatorship. The first thing is that I didn’t want Biden to be renominated because he disgraced the nation with his policies toward Saudi Arabia and Benjamin Netanyahu’s barbaric regime. I am also disappointed that the United States is producing more fossil fuel than ever despite Biden’s awareness of the climate crisis.

We need a revolutionary solution to the problems created by our corrupt political establishment. Fifty years of trickle-down economics turned millionaires into billionaires but it made middle-class Americans poor. The New Deal gave us 50 years of improvement. The genuine Democratic Party approach wouldn’t be tinkering with the fringes. It would reverse Reaganomics and restore the American Dream.

The lobbyist in charge of the Democratic State Committee is making a case for compliance and complacency instead of rallying the public to demand better.

I acknowledge that Trump is worse than Biden but who was president when women lost the right to choose? Who was commander in chief when Russia invaded Ukraine? Who was the president who put Merrick Garland in charge and then prosecuted insurrectionists for littering and loitering rather than being participants in a failed coup attempt? Who utterly failed to charge Trump for the ten counts of Obstruction of Justice described in the Mueller Report? Why did it take a year to begin investigating the documents case or the attempt to overturn the election?

Biden is a terrible candidate who is likely to lose. He cheated to secure a nomination he doesn’t deserve but could have won without boxing out his primary opponents. He choked in the debate and there’s no escape from that.

The whole situation is sad. But it is crazy that our political establishment is shamelessly corrupt and incapable of fixing the problems that are obvious to everyone.

  2. They shamelessly state that they are “Protecting Our Democracy.” It is a bit bizarre 🤔.

  3. Saving Democracy!
Come on I was born at night but not last night who out there believes that the four coordinated trials ( sorry for this coming fact ) all set up by Democrat prosecutors and only set up “after” Trump declared his bid for the presidency is not election interference.
So fixing a trial in a Democrat district ,with a Democrat AG , with a Democrat Judge who has a daughter who is working for a company promoting Biden ,throw in the 3rd highest lawyer in the Biden Administration sent to be its lead prosecutor is saving Democracy?
Today we see another shining example in Democracy as Democrats Congressmen huddle behind close doors to push out a president the people they represent voted for.
