Kim v. Murphy: Chaos in Hunterdon

FLEMINGTON – Chaos erupted at Sunday’s Hunterdon County Democratic Convention when party leaders suggested that both Senate candidates share the “county line.”

Or in other words, neither Tammy Murphy nor Andy Kim would get the line. Instead, they both would be endorsed.

Arlene Quinones Perez, the county chair, said the sharing arrangement would take place if one candidate got at least 30 percent of the vote. She said this would make the primary more “open.”

Opposition was immediate and loud.

“No “ more than one voter shouted from the floor.

The chairwoman tried to explain her thoughts, but was often interrupted.

Someone shouted “shut up” as the loud debate ensued.

Finally, a motion was made and the proposal to share the line was voted down.

Voting is now taking place for the one candidate who will get the line.
