Lankey Defeats Hahn in Battleground Edison

Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, left, and Lankey.

Incumbent Edison Mayor Tom Lankey, a Democrat, tonight defeated Democrat turned Republican Keith Hahn.

The contest was brutal on the ground, with the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) backing Hahn, who lost the local chairmanship of the Democratic Primary a week after the primaries and then changed parties to run against Lankey.

The incumbent Democratic mayor had the support of the man who defeated Hahn for the party chairmanship, Shariq Ahmad.
