East Orange Councilman Chris James is leaving his position as executive director of the Democratic State Committee, ceding the role to newcomer Liz Gilbert, as first reported here by InsiderNJ and confirmed today here.
James will be returning to the service of Sheila Oliver, for whom he worked as Chief of Staff in the State Assembly, in her new roles as Lieutenant Governor and at the helm of the state Department of Community Affairs.
“Chris has been a key player on my team for the vast majority of my tenure as Chairman,” said Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie. “The executive director position is a demanding one. Most people burn out in under two years, but Chris served four, establishing an unmistakable record of success for Democrats up and down the ballot, and across the state. I am confident that he will continue to make me proud.”
