Morris Intensifies with Scheduled Fundraisers

The three Morris County Republicans challenging three incumbents in this year’s GOP primary are running together, but they’re also running separately.
Or so it seems.
The members of the “Future of Morris” slate each have scheduled individual campaign kickoffs and fundraisers over the next two weeks.
Donald Dinsmore of Harding plans a $250 per person event tonight (Wed.) at the Montville home of Lisa and Salvatore LoBiondo.
Another Republican hopeful, Will Felegi of Jefferson, plans a $75 per person event Feb. 21 at American Legion Post 344 in Rockaway.
Then, there’s Cathy Winterfield, a former mayor of Pequannock, who has an event of her own. It is scheduled for Feb. 28 at the Glens Condominium Clubhouse in Pompton Plains.
The incumbents in the race are the team of Doug Cabana, Tom Mastrangelo and Kathy DeFillippis.
Dinsmore said Wednesday that when all the individual events are over and done with, the slate will have a joint campaign kickoff in March.
Candidates run as individuals, so there’s certainly no requirement that they hold joint fundraisers. Still, holding individual events is a bit unusual when all candidates are on the same team.
The interesting thing among Republican insiders is how much traction the insurgent slate will get. The incumbents certainly are better known, although in a county where there is no “county line,” the cliche that “anything can happen” holds true.
