endorsements of Assemblyman Gordon Johnson for State Senate and Shama Haider and Ellen Park for State Assembly in the 37th Legislative District.

“Since 1992, Loretta Weinberg has served as a champion of progressive action in the State House, and her retirement marks the end of what has arguably been the most consequential legislative career in the history of our state,” said Governor Murphy. “While Majority Leader Weinberg’s absence will leave a tremendous void, I’m incredibly proud to endorse Gordon Johnson, Shama Haider, and Ellen Park to carry the torch forward for residents of the 37th District. Whether it’s the fight for racial and social justice or making health care more affordable and more accessible, this diverse, history-making ticket will be an ally for working families.”

“For nearly two decades, I have worked alongside Gordon Johnson to take on our community’s toughest challenges. Together, we led the fight to expand access to health care, increase the minimum wage, enact stronger gun control laws, and ensure equal protection for everyone regardless of race, religion, gender or who they love,” said Majority Leader Lorretta Weinberg. “I am incredibly proud of all we have accomplished, but we know there is still so much work left to be done. That is why we need not only Gordon Johnson as our next State Senator, but two incredibly accomplished women, Shama Haider and Ellen Park, to work alongside him in the State Assembly.”

“As a Tenafly councilwoman and Democratic municipal chair, I have always known Shama to be a hardworking and passionate voice for our shared Democratic values. Similarly, I have known Ellen to be a strong and effective advocate for the residents of Englewood Cliffs, and together with Gordon they will be the progressive champions District 37 needs,” continued Majority Leader Weinberg. “Fifteen years ago, when I became the first woman from Bergen County to serve in the State Senate, it was my Assemblymate, Gordon Johnson, who helped me shatter that glass ceiling. Now, with Gordon, Shama and Ellen, we have the opportunity to kick down three more locked doors and elect the most diverse legislative delegation in New Jersey’s history. I’m proud to endorse Governor Phil Murphy and to join him in endorsing Gordon Johnson for Senate and Shama Haider and Ellen Park for Assembly and I’m fully committed to seeing that they are elected and Governor Murphy is re-elected this year.”
