Neibart Running for Morris County Commission Seat

Sarah Neibart says she wants to bring the “perspective of a new generation” to the Morris County Commissioners.

A committeewoman in Mendham Township since 2018, Neibart said today she will seek a Republican nomination for county commissioner in 2022.

Neibart is the first, but probably not the last, candidate to announce a challenge to a previously-unveiled slate of two incumbents – Tom Mastrangelo and Doug Cabana – and Melissa Florance Lynch. Incumbent Kathy DeFillippo is not seeking reelection.

Politics in Morris County has changed a bit recently, but not on the freeholder/commissioner level. Democrats of late have won county-wide congressional seats and Joe Biden carried Morris in 2020. But up to now, Republicans have held serve on the county level of government.

Neibart’s statement is below:

This morning, Mendham Township Committeewoman Sarah Neibart announced her candidacy for Morris County Commissioner.
“First, I want to thank Commissioner DeFillippo for her years of service and wish her well in her new endeavors,” stated Committeewoman Neibart. “As a lifelong Morris County resident and active community first responder, I could not be more excited to run for Morris County Commissioner. Not only have I never voted for a tax increase, but we actually cut taxes in Mendham Township when I was Mayor. It’s that kind of taxpayer-first, conservative policies and results that I will bring to the Board of Commissioners.”

Sarah is in her second full term as a Mendham Township Committeewoman and was elected by her peers as Mayor in 2020 and 2021. In 2018, she was originally appointed to fulfill an unexpired term. She ran for re-election in 2018 and was re-elected again this past November.

“As a County Commissioner I will bring the perspective of a new generation and a proven record of leadership and community service,” commented Committeewoman Neibart.

In Mendham Township, Sarah serves as a volunteer firefighter, the Deputy Coordinator of the Office of Emergency Management, and an active volunteer in the Township’s recreation programming. Sarah is also part of many organizations and nonprofits throughout Morris County and the State of New Jersey. In 2018, she founded Citizens for Accountable Taxation (CAT), an organization focused on educating New Jersey residents on our highest-in-the-nation property taxes. Sarah is also a contractor focused on technology and security initiatives. Sarah graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Taxation Policy at Georgetown University.

Sarah has worked on many local, statewide, and national political campaigns.
