School Board Member Crystal Fonseca, the daughter of veteran Democratic Party operative Pablo Fonseca, will run for an East Ward Council seat in Newark.

The younger Fonseca picked up petitions this morning to pursue the seat currently occupied by East Ward Councilman Augusto Amador, an ally of Mayor Ras Baraka and a candidate on the mayor’s 2018 slate.

Pablo Fonseca is the former chief of staff of U.S. Senator Cory Boker (when Booker served as mayor).

The East Ward Council candidate has over $100,000 in her campaign war chest as Newark heads toward a May nonpartisan showdown.

Having taken out petitions last week, former Police Director Anthony Campos is also in the East Ward race for Amador’s seat.
