NJ State Building Trades Endorses Senate and Assembly Candidates

Senator Kristin Corrado, Assemblyman Kevin Rooney and Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips release a statement condemning the donation of $2500 contribution by former Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino to the Democratic candidate for Morris County Sheriff.

The NJ State Building & Construction Trades Council today announced its endorsements for the November 2023 New Jersey State Legislature elections, which includes a strong slate of State Senate and Assembly candidates.

“Following an extensive screening process, our council’s member-unions, representing 150,000 building tradesmen, have endorsed a bipartisan roster of statewide candidates who understand labor’s needs and are ready to work with us to revitalize our infrastructure and create jobs and economic prosperity in New Jersey,” said Council President William T. Mullen.

In all, the union trades’ council endorsed 73 Democrats and 21 Republicans in New Jersey’s 40 Legislative Districts. No endorsements were made in 23 races. Mullen emphasized that the Council nominated an unprecedented number of Republicans this year (21) and failed to endorse a candidate in 23 races.

“Both numbers indicate our Council’s insistence on maintaining a bipartisan approach in our nomination process,” Mullen continued. “All of our endorsed candidates have stood with us on matters of vital importance to our livelihoods and to the future of the building and construction trades.

“They also recognize that they must play a critical role in finally ending the irrational fears and partisanship that dominate the political dialogue. It’s the only way we can hope to resolve the daunting social and economic issues that confront all of us.”

Mullen said the Council and its affiliated unions will work over the next five months to ensure union members are registered, informed and motivated to deliver victories for all of the NJ B&CTC-endorsed candidates.

Mullen also said special attention will be given to the election and re-election of those legislators and candidates who are also members of the building trades: Senator Troy Singleton (7th), Assemblymen Wayne DeAngelo (14th), Anthony Verrelli (15th), Joseph Egan (17th), and new Senatorial candidate Latham Tiver in the 8th District.
