NJEA Prez Beatty: Labor Org Talks with Sherrill after Ciattarelli Declines to Screen

NEWARK - Earlier this month, Steve Beatty assumed the presidency of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA).

InsiderNJ caught up with him this morning at One Gateway Center, where Beatty joined a round table convened by U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) on the real-world impact of President Donald Trump's budget cuts to education.

Coming out of the Democratic Primary, when it endorsed former NJEA President Sean Spiller, the labor organization has not yet formally endorsed a candidate for governor in the general.

But Beatty said the NJEA is in touch with Democrat Mikie Sherrill, who participated in the screening process.

Sherrill's opponent, Republican Jack Ciattarelli, declined to screen.
