Incumbent state Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) appears to have won by a slender margin in LD-26 over his rival, Morris Commissioner Tom Mastrangelo.

Five-hundred to 600 votes separated the two Republicans, who competed in an especially ugly contest.

It proved the most dangerous district-wide race in the 20-year legislative career of Pennacchio, branded a “woke” Republican by Mastrangelo.

It was a mind-boggling charge, which put Pennacchio – a former state director of Donald Trump’s New Jersey campaign – in full-blown campaign reelection mode.
