Perth Amboy Mayor Diaz Rakes in $25K at Newark Fundraiser

Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz raised $25,000 at a fundraiser yesterday at Casa Nova Grill in Newark. Attendees included Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and representatives from Newark Mayor Ras Baraka’s office.

Diaz’s allies are calling the event the mayor’s annual leadership luncheon.

Newark Councilman Carlos Gonzalez, local business leaders and representatives from the Edison Korean and Indian communities also attended.

First elected in 2008, Diaz won her second term in 2012 and a third term last year.

“There are those who would like her to just be a small town Mayor,” a source close to New Jersey’s lone Latina mayor told InsiderNJ. “She has respect and recognition around the state and she is ready to step up if the righty opportunity comes up.”
