In Part 1 of our interview, Assembly Deputy Speaker Carol Murphy reflects on growing up in a military family and the powerful influence of her father, a Bronze Star recipient who served in Korea and Vietnam. She discusses losing him at 17, her ongoing search to uncover her family’s Irish history, and the experiences that shaped her independence.

Murphy also shares how her father’s example of service and how his candid skepticism about politicians helped inspire her own commitment to public service and her determination to become someone he would have been proud to support.
