PRESS RELEASE: Big wins for the GOP in Monmouth County!

Monmouth County Republicans, under the leadership of Chairman Shaun Golden, had a solid victory in a year that saw a blue wave around the State.

Congressman Chris Smith of CD 4 knocked out challenger Josh Welle, who put over a million dollars into his failed campaign.

Republicans Sue Kiley and Gerry Scharfenberger trounced their Democrat challengers and 2 independent candidates, including 9 year incumbent John Curley.

On the local level, there was a red wave of victory around the County, with candidates winning seats in 27 of the 38 municipalities that had partisan races. Notably, Republicans swept out the last two remaining Democrats in Hazlet, and the remaining Democrat in Manalapan.

Republicans kept control and swept all races in the Two Rivers area: Shrewsbury Borough, Little Silver, Fair Haven, Oceanport and Rumson.

In Middletown, where control was up due to resignations, Republicans had a decisive victory and kept control of the Township Committee.

This culminated with with titanic victory in the 20 year Democratic stronghold of Belmar, where Republicans swept out former Mayor Matt Doherty’s team and took control.
